I just got my 16-core server built, and my desktop is likewise 16 cores, and as of today, both are running Boinc and contributing time towards this project.

Still going
I was just looking over stats for our team because I setup Boinc on my new machine and was playing with the numbers. As a team we're really pulling some good numbers still, awesome to see that people have kept running over the years. Just thought I'd say hi, and give everyone a *wave*.

Hey :D
Hello world!

I have been lurking in the furry community for some time now. Always been kind of shy to put myself out there and whatnot...But now I am! I hope I am able to meet lots of friends on here and the like. I am from Michigan and am going on 23. I love to camp and spend time in the outdoors just really getting to know nature and all that jazz. I like to think of myself as calm and collected so do not be afraid to say hello. I look forward to making lots of friends! I am big into fursuiting and might attempt my own soon.

Love from da big cat.

More bang
Just upgraded my workstation, it has about 50% more processor, so hopefully numbers will go up. I also need to get my server upgraded and running WCG again.

Happy Holidays
gsfuchs prodded me, and after testing and a bunch of hassle with deployment, I'm up and running on 76 devices, just in time for the holidays.

Wishing you all the best,

with FA starting up http://wiki.furaffinity.net/index.php/The_FA_Folding@Home_Initiative I think if we get word out about the World Community Grid and see if we can get more fuzzies to join our group of currently 73. I think an add banner on one or more popular fur sights might do well. What do you guys think.

Just some Statistics...
Hey guys!  So, we've been doing this for just under 3 years now and are churning out some SERIOUS numbers as in, our team ranks in the Top #100 of all teams based on Total Run Time, Points Generated and Results Returned!!!

What's this mean?  It means we're making a REAL difference in the fields of AIDS and Cancer research, as well as climate study and now, world hunger!  And the kewlest thing about it?  How often do you even think about it?!?  I mean, seriously...  How often do you stop to think, *SIGH*  Time to start working on AIDS research...  Chances are, NEVER.  While you're out at work, or sleeping, or at a con...  While you're out doing ANYTHING besides sitting here reading this, your computer is busily doing what it was built to do...  Process data.

Of course...  The problem with how easily this program slips into the background is that...  BECAUSE most of us don't give it that much thought...  We don't really talk about it.  But the thing is...  We SHOULD!  Look at the numbers below...  With just 71 members, which would otherwise rank us 326th in terms of team size...  We are processing a SERIOUS amount of data!  Just think of what we could do if we doubled our members...  We're already working at a level that surpasses major institutions like universities and hospitals.  Just think about that for a moment.  Together, we've put in MORE time and processing power and churned out more results than Harvard, Yale and MIT...  COMBINED...  And then DOUBLED!!!

We're making a difference...  A huge difference...  But we could be doing a LOT more!  So...  Take a moment and let your friends know what you're doing here.  Direct them to the us_furries  PROFILE page which explains how to join and make sure they know un-noticable the program is.

Just wanted to post, and say Hi! Looks like quite a few of you are contributing to this effort, and I'm sure the researchers are happy to have our computers chugging away helping out.

Thought I'd cut and paste some numbers here for those who don't go and look very often.

Our group is doing well, #67 for points, #89 for results.

We've contributed more than 146 years worth of computing time to the project. Wow!

Don't forget to recruit more people, let's see those numbers go up!

Looked over this group today and warphammer said how the old UD cliet could only run single-thread. I installed Boinc today and it seems an impressive difference. tho now I can actually tell there is something else on the computer now.

Hi y'all
Hi everyone, and thanks to woodychitwn for pointing out this group to me. I have four machines running and wanted to squeeze an HIV-related project into at least one of them. Figured out how to do it, and started crunching tonight. And thanks for letting me join your team. :)

I have two DEC Alpha computers and two Intel Pentium 4-based computers running BOINC right now, and will share one of the Pentiums between this project and SETI@Home most likely. (Unfortunately, the Alphas can't run this project. They have the most time.)

National HIV Testing Day...
As a heads-up, today is national HIV Testing Day here in the United States.

I urge you to direct those on your friends list to www.hivtest.org to find what local services are available to them.

(And it couldn't help to remind them about this community, The World Community Grid and how easy and unobtrusive the software is!)

Throttling down for summer
As much as I'm happy with how my machines have been throwing numbers towards the Fight AIDS project, as the summer temperatures rise, it will be necessary for me to throttle back. My front room is already warmer than the rest of the appartment. While this is nice during the winter, it's not for the summer, especially since the air conditioner is at the far end of the apartment. But, I will keep at least some of the system running the program.

Geek curiosity
Just curious what kinds of machines people have running this software. I've got my workstation and Linux server running. That's: 2x Opteron 242 (1.6ghz) and an Athlon 1800.

Current stats as of 02/25/07...
Just wanted to take a second to comment on the state of our "little" team here... First off, Wow! We're nearly at 50 members! PLUS, well unfortunately I don't have a record of our stats a few months ago, but across the board we were ranked in the thousand, plus numbers... As you can see below, we're in the top 300s across the board ('cept the Points Generated, which is top 200, W00t!)

I think the thing I'm the MOST proud of, however... Is the total run time....

Together, you and I have dedicated, get this, 25 YEARS, 162 DAYS and 22 HOURS, PLUS to AIDS Research!

Over 25-years worth of computer time... In just 14 short months... That's AMAZING!

And while I want to thank you all, and you should each thank each other and yourselves...  I feel we should take a moment to recognize the following furs in particular...

loiosh_de_talto, warphammer and ashtyn have EACH, donated over a year of computer time!  Thank-you each, VERY much!

And ThumperBunny...  Has donated over 13-YEARS worth, in just under 3 months...  Yeah, he's the fur behind, literally HALF of our donated time.  That's just...  AWESOME!  Thanks man!  (Wherever you are)

(That being said...  Does anyone have LJ names for the other furs mentioned above?)

Rather than JUST pat ourselves on the shoulders...  I know it's been mentioned in the past that we should have a less-exclusionary name...  Originally, I'd hoped that the national borders would encourage a sense of competition.  But really, I doubt many of us recognize this program is running day-to-day, so I doubt anyone thinks of it overly often.  Anyway, what do you guys think?  Should we change the name?

WCG BOINC servers are down.
FYI, in case you don't watch the logs closely, the servers that handle work reporting for BOINC clients have been down since yesterday, and most everyone without (or even sometimes *with*) a modified queue length is out of work units at this point. Until the problem can be fixed (might take a while - apparently the server in question is in the middle of the Colorado blizzard), you could either go to the UD client (unattractive for many, since it has some serious deficencies), or attach to another project for now. I've taken the deplete bit off Einstein for now, until WCG gets back. Fun!

I should have done this a year ago... I thought, what are we going to talk about?!? The program's so innocuous, ya don't even realize it's running. Heck, I've been running it on my home and office computer for the last year and to be honest, I'd forgotten it was there. But this morning I was reminded it was World AIDS Day, so I ran to my computer, and sure enough, it was still there and running. (Although, not at that exact moment, as I have it set to only run when the screensaver kicks in.)

Within the last year, between my office computer, which I only shut down on weekends, and my home computer, which is on and off regularly, I've somehow managed to donate over 9,000 hours of processing time to this cause! 9,000 hours, where my computers would have otherwise been doing absolutely nothing.

And more surprisingly, since starting the US Furries team, a bunch of people joined who... I have no clue who they are, and that's even MORE awesome! They just.. *shrugs* Found us! So, I figured, more furs need to know about this... Here we are, a fandom full of people who, basically all own computers... many of us with multiple computers... heck, some with entire computer farms! We're like... The IDEAL demographic for this kinda thing!

And so, I present the US Furries Livejournal Community... WELCOME!
